A different motivation for healthy changes

I dealt with frustration about my work performance and motivation for years. I tried everything I could think of to overcome it: ADHD medication, vitamins, amino acids and other supplements. But also work approaches like breaking up big tasks into small chunks, pomodoro and time-boxing, earlier sleep, less blue light in evenings, website blockers , focus music, habit tracking and streaks and breathing techniques. And that is just the tip of the iceberg of things I tried. Most of these aren‘t bad ideas to do but by themselves they are no holy grail. More is needed, so my quest continues.
I also considered another career but I have not found anything that really clicks for me yet. I know I want to make a change at some point, but I haven't gotten there yet.

Recently I read about our gut-brain axis and micro inflammations in our bodies (and brains) and how they affect various aspects of our health. Of course I always knew sugar and a lack of exercise were bad for me, but taking action is a whole different beast.
It was sheer frustration about work-related mental and cognitive challenges I consistently faced, that made me go for it, 30 days sugar free in an attempt to overcome my mental and cognitive challenges.
Spoiler: 11 weeks sugar free and no miracle has happened yet, but I do feel better physically and mentally.
Just writing this makes me realize that I am actually making progress. I can mostly relate that progress to higher and more consistent energy. It also helps that I feel much better about my physical health. I quickly found the motivation to start a regular exercise routine and to increase my overall activity.
Now, I need to learn to be more patient. I spent a lifetime building bad habits into my life and I need to give my body and mind the time to adapt to my new lifestyle.
Trust the process, I guess.
